The First Shoso-in Bulletin Award

Is Presented to

Starring Sherlock Holmes

By David Stuart Davies

he new Shoso-in Bulletin Award is presented to a Sherlockian or Doylean work which is recommended to Sherlockians all over the world.
We are pleased to present our first award to Mr. David Stuart Davies’ fine work, Starring Sherlock Holmes (Titan Books, London). Mr. Davies is the co-founder of The Northern Musgraves, one of the leading Sherlockian societies in Britain, and the editor of The Detective Magazine. His play, Sherlock Holmes: The Last Act! is popular with British and American audiences.
This book, Starring Sherlock Holmes, is full of photographs of Sherlockian movies from the days of silent movies to modern-day, with thoughtful explanations. Sherlockians with limited knowledge of English will find its many illustrations and photographs very helpful. In fact, I can safely recommend this volume to any Sherlockian, even those who cannot read English at all! Additionally, it contains a plethora of information on foreign Sherlockian movies and TV programs. I was even surprised to find a DVD-ROM of Japanese “Sherlock Hound” animation movie listed this book, which I have not seen mentioned elsewhere.

If you know of a particular new Sherlockian or Doylean work which is unique in its coverage of the subject, and which can be enthusiastically recommended to any Sherlockian, regardless of location, please tell us. All recommendations will be researched and carefully considered for our new Shoso-in Bulletin award!
